About me

My Story

My name is Katrin Stoerr de Queiroz. I was born and raised in Germany, but the course of my life took me to California as a young woman, which is where I had my first daughter, and to Brazil, which is where my younger daughter was born.

In 2010 my family and I came to Florida due to my husband’s work. I currently live in South Miami, and am getting used to my new status as an empty nester, as both my girls have taken off to college. I speak English, German and Portuguese and am trying to improve my Spanish on the go.

My Philosophy
My Training

My own transforming experiences of pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum weeks as well as my work as a midwife in Germany have made me a passionate advocate for excellent, empathic and attentive care during that important time.

During my first pregnancy, my midwife and OB-GYN prepared and supported me (and my husband) in a way that I still remember those days vividly and fondly. They opened new horizons to me by providing important information, different opinions and viewpoints and calm reassurance in moments of doubt. As a professional, I saw the difference I was able to make with the women I cared for in Germany just by taking the time, truly listening, offering options rather than pointing down a one-way street, and maybe most importantly, tapping into a woman’s innate strengths and capacities.

As your doula, it is my goal to support you on your journey to motherhood, no matter what your personal path may be. I will be available for care around all birth settings, in or out of hospital, vaginal birth or c-section.

I firmly believe that every woman should have the kind of care that will provide her with the best possible outcome for herself and her baby and strengthen her through the life-changing transition into motherhood.

I was trained and certified as a midwife in Germany and worked in a hospital setting with around 1300 deliveries a year, where I rotated through the labor and delivery ward, maternity ward, high risk pregnancy ward as well as the NICU. After that, I joined a team of midwives in a private practice and performed prenatal care, taught childbirth and postpartum exercise classes as well as doing home visits for postpartum care.

Due to the fact that there is a tight net of midwifery care in place and available to all women through public and private health insurance in Germany, doulas do not really exist. Midwives deliver babies, provide medical care, counseling, information, and physical and emotional support in hospitals, private practices and during home visits.

Here in Miami, the setting is very different, which is why I am happy to be able to share my experience with new mothers and their families through my work as a doula.

“Katrin has been an essential part in keeping me happy and healthy during and after my pregnancy. She took amazing care of us! My first doctor's appointment after giving birth was six weeks later. I had so many questions during that time, and Katrin had all the answers. She still does;)"  Ute D.
